Type Motorimota CB 750 Honda
Since initially posted on Bike EXIF by my buddy Chris this week, the Motorimota/Whitehouse CB 750 has really made the rounds, with information and pictures hurriedly posted on many speciality-bike blogs and café’ racer sites. One look at the bike should tell you why; the CB 750 ‘Type Motorimota’ is a stunning visual, combining elements of vintage Bol ‘d Or endurance racer with café special using modern materials and technology.

This story features Japanese fashion designer Shinichiro Arakawa, custom builder Whitehouse and high-end retailer Motorimota, who is now featuring the machine in house and on their website. Arakawa, an internationally famous artist has penned bikes before; obviously inspired by the retro/endurance theme that caused a sensation in Europe during the late 1970s. The fabricators at Whitehouse are also keen on the retro market, faithfully recreating famous competition models and street specials using traditional inline Japanese fours. With its impressive range, Motorimoda seems the perfect stage for the Arakawa/Whitehorse Honda.

Since I can’t read Japanese (and the people I know who can are out for the weekend) I’m forced to wing it solo by studying the photos and referencing the sketchy written details. The first hint that the Motorimota uses the stock Honda frame as base is the profile of its beautiful alloy fuel cell. Dropping at the rear to match the seat pan, it mimics the frame’s upper portion, raised to clear the engine’s DOHC assembly. The twin shock swingarm is retained, as is the standard OEM fork and calipers that I’m guessing are CB 1100F spec. The CB 750's original Comstar aluminum wheels and rotors have been binned and the rear suspensions appear to be from Ohlins. The engine has reportedly been performance tuned for an additional 20-hp and the 4-into-1exhaust is pure eye candy. The carbon fiber body parts are highlight painted and attached via Deutz fasteners. Note the twin ports at the fairing’s leading edge, no doubt implemented as an aerodynamic aid. Nolan Woodbury

Triumph Speed Triple

"...credited for kicking off the production street fighter craze, many traditionalists view the original Speed Triple as one of the best conceived factory cafe' racers ever produced. Striking in any color (US buyers could choose between red, black or the iconic Fireball Orange) Bloor/Triumph's first commercial success rates exceptional marks for originality, mechanical excellence and the kind of drop dead styling that compares to legendary brands like Vincent, Laverda and Brough Superior. Responsible in large part for the renaissance of the British motorcycling industry...” Read more
